The question is, why do students actually play school sports? What’s the reason? I’m wondering if students who play club sports and school sports do it for fun or if they are forced to.
To find out the answer, I first wanted to get the perspective of a student who doesn’t play school sports.. Nessa Guillen plays soccer outside of school for her club. She says the reason she doesn’t play for the school team is that she feels being in a Club team is better than a school one. She thinks playing a club team is better since it has better divisions to play for, and it gives her a chance to play with even more competitive teams.
I asked her if she would consider playing a school sport in the future, “ Yes, because it will give me the motivation to keep up with grades”. She feels like school sports require good grades to be able to play on the field for the team, and in the future, it will benefit her.
Now I want to know why a student plays for both the school team and an out-of-school club. This next interview is with Aiden Arreola. My first question is, why do you play soccer for the school team? His response was, “I played soccer for the school to experience what it’s like to play with older people and to develop confidence to play against older people.” He also said that it was very tiring to play for both school and club teams.
My third question was, Would you play for the school team and your club again next school year? “Yes, I would do it again next year because it was really fun playing with my friends and having a whole season and training with them every day.” Now it’s time for the very important last question: Is it difficult to keep up with schoolwork while playing sports? “No, not really, as long as you get everything done in class and then finish at home after practice, it’s not that hard.”
The last student I want to interview is Carson Gardner. He is on the school track team and plays soccer for his club. I wanted to know the reason why he does track, is it for academics, fun, or college benefits? He says, “I joined it for fun and to get faster for soccer”. My second question is, how do you manage to keep up with grades and work while constantly playing sports? He said, “ I go to my teachers before and ask if there’s any work that I’ll need to do/make up, and I try to manage my time well.” My last question is, what would you tell other students who want to play for school and outside of school teams? “ Work hard to keep your grades up so they aren’t an issue, and just have fun and work hard.”
Now I’m able to understand why hardworking students would want to play multiple sports every single day, even if it’s extremely exhausting. I learned that playing school sports can be motivating and provide tons of confidence. I hope this article helps the students reading this article to see whether or not they want to join school sports. It’s important to focus on schoolwork, but it’s also very important to focus on having fun.
