Warm Clothing Drive Ongoing!
Community Outreach clothing drive

The Community Outreach Club at San Diego High School has continuously been supporting its vulnerable neighbors through projects. The club was founded in order to create an on-campus way for students to help people experiencing homelessness. Community Outreach Club is partnered with PILT (PATH Interscholastic Leadership Team (pilt4path.org)), a 501(c)3 California Unincorporated Nonprofit Association with a like-minded idea. The club aims to engage its community and get students involved.

The clothing drive begins on Monday, January 26th, and will go through February 6th. The drive aims to provide warm clothing garments, hoodies, coats, beanies, and blankets to their community members. Donations can be gently used or new. All donations will go directly to Sharia’s Closet, a non-profit organization that provides “free emergency clothing to people in crisis with dignity and respect” (https://shariascloset.org/). Donations will be collected in Rooms 161 and 1001 in the cardboard bins.

In the past, the club has done other clothing drives, food drives, a pet toys and food drive, multiple pizza sales, a Shirley Temple sale, baked goods sales, and services at PATH. PILT encompasses 20 different partner schools in San Diego County. Its members have hosted various drives, fundraisers, a GoFundMe, have a monthly blog, creative projects, made care kits, and hosted dinner and clothing cabinet services at PATH Connections. PILT is partnered with PATH, Sharia’s Closet, Urban Street Angels, and the YMCA’s Transitional Age Youth and Housing Our Youth programs.

Our Goal

Thanks to generous support from the San Diego High School Foundation, Alumni Association, and Parent Teacher Student Association, our goal for online fundraising has been dramatically adjusted. Donations here will support our annual website hosting costs and help both journalism and yearbook students attend the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention. Please help us reach our goal!
