Happy New Year cavers! During the first semester journalism published so many great articles, despite having a rocky start I’d like to share a recap of some of our favorite stories from 2025.
First off we have Eva Anderson. Eva has published two articles with us so far and they are some of the best yet. Eva is a strong and passionate writer. She writes about the government shutdown where she talks about what a government shutdown is, why it happened and how it can be resolved.
Next up is Christopher Trudeau is a student here at SDHS and currently has two articles published, Charlie Kirk: a death by division and Are Teachers Worried About Social Media & Cell Phone Use In SDHS?. Both of these articles are a must read. In Charlie Kirk: a death by division Christopher talks about the before, during, and after the tragic event.
Some articles to lookout for are More than Pom poms by Angelina Beltran and More than a game by Julianna Solis both articles cover the unseen aspects of SDHS cheerleading and boys soccer. Other articles you can expect to see soon are two articles about deportation in the community and the affects, Community’s Past Experience Leads on Immigration Responses on SDHS and School Administration Stance on Deportation for Students In San Diego Unified Schools?. Both of which are by Gabriela Cuevas, an SDHS student.
Our primary goal right now is fundraising for JEA. Journalism Education Association (JEA) is a national organization that supports student journalists. They provide training, resources, and professional development for every part of journalism from photography to writing and everything in between. Through hands-on seminars led by professional journalists, JEA helps students build professional level journalism skills. Attending together allows students to strengthen their program, collaborate as a team, and better serve the San Diego community through high-quality student journalism. San Diego High School’s journalism club wants to attend the JEA convention so we can learn new skills, come up with new ideas, and bring best practices back to campus. Right now we are asking for funding for JEA from everyone in our community. You can donate on our website at sdhsruss.org. This funding will go to both journalism and yearbook for attending JEA.
