As we begin Semester 2 here at SDHS, Ms. Francis is preparing for the next concert. The concert is set to be held on April 21. The preparations taking place for this spring choral concert require significant time and effort.
Few students know how much planning goes into a choral concert. This article is important for anyone in the choir or anyone interested in the next concert.
Ms. Francis describes the spring concert as being “more exciting” than the winter concert, saying that students are more prepared now than they were in the winter. “I’m just looking forward to another different wonderful highlight, just really showcasing students’ talents.”
She notes that her spring concerts are harder to plan compared to winter concerts. Mainly with how many people are performing and coming to watch, “The end of the year, there is just so many things happening.” She said, “We also just have a huge number of students…Then we have to factor all of our family members and people’s friends and things like that, you end up with a ton of people.”
Ms. Francis talks about playing with themes of concerts, specifically the theme of resilience. “I think oftentimes when we think about the future, we can feel very afraid and very anxious, and I’m trying to teach our students that the future can be a bright place and that we can dream big, ”she said. “We are playing around with the ideas of rising above circumstances, being encouraged, and reflecting on it. All just centering on the idea of being resilient and being your own person!”
After interviewing, it is concluded that preparations are going well! Despite the choral concert being a lot to prepare for, Ms. Francis is working hard to make the concert both enjoyable and put out a message.
