Hey Cavers,
Let’s be real: SDHS students have a lot to say. And here at SDHS Journalism, we have been hard at work these past few months to highlight your voices. Since the beginning of the school year, we have grown the number of our reporters, refined our publishing workflow, and set up our online and social media presence. It has been really amazing to watch my colleagues work so hard and achieve this major milestone: filling our front page! The articles currently provide a range of coverage, from sports to fashion and everything in between.
Some of November’s standout features that have caught my eye include work from our Opinion section, by Eva Anderson. This freshman journalist provides an analysis of the recent government shutdown, discussing both its causes and possible impact on our local community.
In Sports, Remy Degener captures the emotions and the action of Caver volleyball games with amazing detail. There are video updates on the volunteer work of our very own Academy of Finance & Entrepreneurship, as well as the new Inside the Cave updates by our Video Production team on our website.
Now that we are officially launched, we are eager to not just continue our work but to grow in many ways. We want to increase our reporting coverage in all areas, including our many sports and campus events. We also hope to recruit some photographers who would like to join SDHS Journalism. These photojournalists would support our written news stories with their images and maybe even contribute photo-essays. There is even talk of growing our offerings in the coming months to podcasting. And, we are now officially fundraising for our big goal for the year: the Journalism Educators Association Spring Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It’s an exciting time to get into journalism.
Every article represents hours of hard work. We hope our site not only informs you but also sparks ideas and perhaps interest to write an article of your own. We welcome submissions from any SDHS student, not just Journalism members. Be sure to get in touch if you would like to make a submission, or just submit a story idea if you have a news tip. Thank you for reading and for your support of SDHS journalism.
Sincerely,
Isa Iturra
