San Diego, CA – 6/1/26
On May 29, 2026 the San Diego Cavers baseball team hosted the Morse Tigers for their second game in their 3 game series. The Cavers got this game in a blowout 6-0 win. This leaves the Cavers up 2-0 in their series of games. They are set to play again on Friday, May 1st at Morse High school at 4:00.
Since the beginning of the season Caver baseball has been constantly improving. Although they lost a few games, they quickly got on their high horse and are now sitting at 11-11-1. They have an even win percentage going into playoffs with quite a few more games to play. When asked how he has been able to constantly improve his team, Head Coach Francisco Garcia stated, “ I try my best to be as persistent as possible, keeping practice consistent, letting them know the expectations of being on the team, and just making sure I keep the team’s integrity and culture together.” This has been very evident throughout the season as many players have given Garcia his props for the improvement in team morale since last season.
In the game against Morse sophomore Jayden Harris had one of his personal best games of the season. He began the game stealing every base and bringing home a single run himself. He then proceeded to hit a Grand Slam bringing home a total of 5 of the Cavers 6 runs. Their last run came from an error from the other team so you can technically say Jayden hit them all. This is very impressive considering he also played catcher all seven innings of the game. Senior Henry Signer recorded 8 strikeouts, only giving up a total of 2 hits throughout a complete seven inning game. The Cavers are only going to keep improving as they go into the playoffs and it is very evident. As their coach said, “Our goal this season is to win the CIF Finals.” They have a mission on their mind and they aren’t going to let anyone stop them.
Going into their next matchup the Cavers plan to once again dominate their competition. Pitcher #42 Malachi Diaz plans to “ Have a shutout game and get some hits.” He is a sophomore who has been playing Varsity since his freshman year. So far this season Diaz’s best game was on the 24th of May against Lincoln High School. Malachi stated, “ Knowing my capabilities paired with the work we have put in since, I believe I can play even better than that game.”
The spirits of the team are at an all time high right now, They have won their last two games and don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. It is safe to say that this series is over for the Morse Tigers, seeing they lost their first matchup 21-8 and their second 6-0. The Cavers are looking dangerous entering the playoffs, and they shouldn’t be shunned.
