In every new sports season, young athletes will need to step up to fill the places of the upperclassmen as they move on to the next stages of their lives. The San Diego High Boys’ golf team is no exception, as their varsity roster is filled with seniors and juniors. Sophomore Gabriel Diaz states, “They have influenced me by giving me advice, like Joey and Max; they are great captains.” Diaz Makes it clear that the upperclassmen are doing what they can to ensure the future of boys’ golf at San Diego High is bright. In addition, the coach of boys golf, Coach Benedetto, claims, “I’m really trying to give JV players opportunities to play up in varsity matches,” and he brings that to the course in their match against Christian High School. Coach Benedetto states, “Today we had two JV players that played up in varsity to give them experience on a larger course that’s a little bit more difficult.” This effort is proving that, even as athletes come and go, boys’ golf will continue to grow and compete.
