Geo Tech (Green Engineering) is not just an Academy; it is a lifesaver for everyone who exists in our world. You may think it is not a significant pathway at San Diego High School. However, it reduces pollution, lowers energy consumption, and increases public health through sustainable, resource-efficient design. All of this can be done by using safe, non-toxic materials.
In addition, students do not have to think of being engineers to join this pathway. Yes, it prepares students for future engineering fields through hands-on projects, internships, and mentorships, as mentioned in their official website. Yet it exposes students to how to deal with the environment around us and gain numerous skills through field trips and experience.
Mrs. Leqah Munaim Falah, an AVID teacher and a contributor to the Geotech Academy, brought engineering design classes and internships to students that encourage them to think outside of the box and gain problem-solving skills.
“Students don’t necessarily have to be engineers here,” Mrs. Munaim said, “They gain a variety of skills. I think the main thing that students learn is problem-solving. They are presented with my problems, and I ask them to find solutions for them.”
Therefore, it sounds like this program could be hard and not meant for everyone. Once a student joins this pathway, they will gain skills over time. The requirements are basic. You must pass fundamental classes such as English, History, and Gov/Eco.
