In California, many counties and school districts are banning the use of cell phones in school or restricting their cell phone use in some way. One of the main reasons is due to social media, but many sources suggest that social media is addictive. Students in San Diego High School were observed if they were on social media during lunch, in passing period, or class time. Students were on their phones watching videos from a social media sources via TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Students were also found making a TikTok video near the 900 and 1000 buildings during class time.
Many students on campus will have their phones out in their hands or in their sight. Social Media plays a big part in phone use due to many students wanting entertainment or even to record memories. San Diego High School has recently changed the cell phone policy due to social media affecting students in San Diego High School. Many students cannot even keep social media away, not even for a minute. Many students keep social media around them 24/7.
