The San Diego Cavers girls’ basketball team has put together a strong 15–8 season so far, leaning on tight-knit chemistry and confident scoring while working to sharpen the details that could push them even further. Players say the year has been full of growth, lessons and a lot of trust-building both on and off the court.
They describe the season as competitive and sometimes unpredictable, with highs and lows shaping who they are as a group. Scoring hasn’t been an issue, but the team admits that defensive rotations, communication and slowing down on offense have been major points of emphasis in practice. The focus has been on playing together, staying patient, and avoiding rushed possessions.
“So far, our season is pretty good. It’s the ups and downs, San Diego Caver Seniah Sims said. She added that the team’s “really good chemistry on and off the court” comes from the way they connect and joke around outside of games, which carries over into how they play.
That bond has fueled their offense, but players know defense will determine how far they can go. Recent practices have zeroed in on rotations; pressing and boxing out areas they believe will make the biggest difference in tight matchups.
With a winning record and plenty of momentum, the Cavers feel they can compete with anyone. Still, they’re honest about the work ahead.
“I don’t feel like any team can really guard us,” Jewels Parker said, though she acknowledged the team has “struggled with rotations.”
Cavers player Seniah sims echoed that sentiment, saying the team’s biggest challenge is staying disciplined. “We’ll make two to three passes and then force a bucket when we still have time on the shot clock,” she said.
Coaches have continued to stress communication, patience, and defensive awareness as the keys to taking the next step.
As the season moves forward, the Cavers hope to tighten up defensively, lean on their chemistry and finish the year playing their best basketball yet.
