The San Diego High School Varsity Basketball team is now 10-45 on the season. Two players from the 2025-2026 Basketball team were able to share information about the process of playing their rival team and how they navigated through the game mentally. During this recent game on February 12 against Mission Bay High School, the score was 45-73.
We talked to Landon Cullins, mentioning how the game was going well until it was senior night, which was a tough environment for them, and the players mentally started to give up. He shared his perspective on how they navigated through that as a team and for himself. When it’s an intense game and “handling emotions” and “sharing positive affirmations,” his whole team “plays for each other” even with “missing shots” because it’s a given.
As for another player who remains anonymous shares his side of the game, he says that he’s played this team multiple times and it was a “very competitive game”. They also share how he believes “in the “next play” mentality of not “getting down” on yourself it changes your “confidence”. The player mentioned that the rival’s alumni were getting in their heads. This game also taught the player to work out on their “interior defence” and be more disciplined and “stronger” as a team.
