The volleyball game between San Diego and Hoover started at 6:00 p.m. in the San Diego High School gym.
This was the last game of the season for these San Diego High girls, and it was their senior night. Before the game, they had a very big celebration for their seniors, including presents for the SDHS seniors and flowers for the Hoover seniors. The stands were full of supporters cheering these teams on, and you could feel the energy in the air. This was their second time playing with each other, and it was expected to be really exciting. If SDHS won this game, they would go to the playoffs.
This game went to 5 sets; the first set was 27-25, Hoover. Then the second set was 25-13, SDHS. Once we got to the 3rd set the stands were crazy, the set went 25-23, Hoover. SDHS was able to come back in the 4th set to win 25-11. In the 5th set the game only goes to 15 instead of 25. This was the first time that SDHS had gone to 5 sets so they didn’t know what they were getting into. In the very beginning SDHS was leading 12-6 then Hoover had a good server come out and SDHS lost their mojo. By the end of the set they had lost 16-14.
After the game I was able to interview the seniors and asked them what they would say to their younger teammates. Kimora Banks said “Have fun and enjoy it while it lasts” and Shari Moya said “Make sure to balance school and volleyball.”
In great thanks to our seniors Kimora Banks and Shari Moya, we couldn’t have done this without you! The Lady Cavers really enjoyed their season and are so excited to see you next season!
