The School Governance Team (SGT) has its mid-year check-in on their School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) on Thursday, Feb 19th, 2026. They have many things planned for SPSA, ranging from graduation rates to improving grade averages. Planning these goals is especially important, so they know how and what they want to focus on, as well as monitoring their progress. Some of the goals align with other topics talked about in the meeting like attendance, either due to how important it is or because they want to focus on it more. They will also discuss improvement on assessment scores, mostly targeting certain students who struggle in that area or subject like English learners in English Language Arts and Mathematics. There is also a higher focus on improving their focus on SPSA itself and how they go about it.
“I don’t remember last year doing the work on SPSA we’re doing this year (…) this is an evolutionary step,” said SGT Chair and SDHS teacher, Patrick Goddard.
As SGT puts their focus more onto SPSA goals, there has been a higher focus on check-ins and what is working and what is not. Both Goddard and Hord want more check-ins, whether they are 6 weeks or quarterly. These check-ins help see where they are as far as the SPSA goals.
“Access to data of how these groups are doing in these areas (…) quarterly or every six weeks for the progress reports,” said Instructional Coordinator Cameron Hord.
As SGT makes improvements for SPSA and other focuses for their next meeting on Thursday, Mar 19th, 2026, whether the check-in changes happen depends on SGT and the school. Both Hord and Goddard want more progress reports while also making sure the interventions in place are working as planned to see if changes need to happen. SGT will continue to work towards the SPSA goals to see them through so students can improve in the areas needed.
