On the ninth of the new year, the San Diego Cavers played the Crawford High Colts at San Diego High School. In December, the San Diego Cavers won all of their 4 games. With their 74-12 win against the Colts and their 10-point win over Helix High School on the 6th. The Cavers were then on an exciting six-game streak!

In their game against the Crawford High Colts, the leading scorer was #4 Jewel Parker. She scored 21 of the Cavers’ 74 points. When asked what the mindset was going into that game, she stated, “ To make a statement that nobody in our league should be close, which is why we wanted to blow them out.”

Sophomores #20 Seniaah Simms and #3 Gianna Woodson each added 13. #0 Geleah Woodson, also a sophomore, had 11 points, and senior Shanti Glenn had 8. Throughout four quarters of a 32-minute game, the Cavers were able to hold the other team to just 12 points. This means the other team scored about 3 points a quarter. Showcasing the Cavers ability to execute their plan and shut teams down.

The following day, on Jan. 10, they played King High School, and unfortunately, they lost 65-55. When asked how they planned to get their streak back, Seniaah Simms responded, “ We just need to work on our defense. Our offense was good, but if our defense gets better, we should be fine.” That must have been all they worked on because the Cavers then beat La Jolla High School, 71-21.

As the playoffs approach, teams in the Cavers conference should fear what’s to come. They are a team that is going to keep developing at a rapid pace with the amazing coaching of Andrea Bird. The Cavers are next due to play Mira Mesa High School, Friday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. in their home gym.
